SCI Members willingly give their time and energy to hep SCI flourish, the Early Career Award offers the opportunity to recognise the contributions of our early career members' enthusiasm, dedication and service during their membership with SCI.

The requirements for the Early Career Award focus on the time and energy that members put into their activities in support of SCI. Nominators are asked to identify the activity that the nominee has carried out and to provide details of the time period which this activity spans. Activity may be related to Committee Service, working with SCI publications, or any other area that has directly contributed to SCI growth or impact. Nominators will be required to demonstrate the importance of the activities the nominee undertook and to outline how they were successful.

Nominated by: Any SCI member, or SCI staff member may make a nomination. Members of the Board, major committees and Groups are particularly invited to do so. Nominees should not be informed that they are being nominated, the process should remain confidential.

SCI e-members are not eligible to be nominated, nor to make a nomination, for the Early Career Award.

Eligibility:
1) Length of service
• A minim of three years of consecutive membership
2) Scope – one or more of any of the following
• Service on one or more committee
• Held a committee officer position
• Contributed to the outputs of their committee
• Increased overall committee membership
• Served as an SCI Ambassador for minimum 1 year
• Shown a high level of commitment to SCI activity e.g. career events, volunteering opportunities
3) Impact – one of more of the following
• Has had a demonstrable positive impact on SCI through their commitment and activity
• Active participation and attendance at multiple early career events

Application: Nominations can be made via completion of this online application form. Nominators should detail the achievements of their nominee in no more than 500 words.

Description of Award: Certificate and one-year free membership of SCI.

Presented at: SCI AGM or other suitable occasion

Frequency: Annual. Normally, a maximum of three Early Career Awards are presented in any one year.

Nominations Open: 1 September 2025

Nomination Deadline: 5pm 31 March 2026

Nominators and successful nominees are informed of the decision by May following the nomination assessment.

Selected by: Nominations will be reviewed by members of SCI's Careers committee and approved by the Board of Trustees.
