2027 SOPHE Annual Conference Education Committee

Call for Committee Members

The Annual Conference Education Committee supports SOPHE's 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, particularly in strengthening health education, promotion capacity, and offering learning opportunities that translate research into practice. The committee focuses on selecting the annual conference theme, developing the call for abstracts, identifying plenary speakers, creating engagement, and developing content to shape and advance the health education workforce.

The 2027 SOPHE Annual Conference is scheduled for March 17-19, 2027 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Committee calls will begin in March 2026.

Please let us know if you are interested by February 12. You will be notified by February 26. Committee meetings will start in April 2026.

Program Workgroup: Responsible for ensuring overall program focus, quality and alignment with theme, in collaboration with SOPHE staff. To assure that the annual conference activities support the determined theme and subthemes. Recommend plenary speakers to be invited. Workload demand is highest during the beginning of the planning process from June – October.

Abstracts Workgroup: Responsible for the Call for Abstracts and review process. The workgroup prepares for the Call for Abstracts, ensures there is a call for abstract reviewers, and provides concurrent session and poster recommendations to the committee. Workload demand is highest in June – December.

Student Engagement Workgroup: Responsible for identifying topics and and recruiting presenters for the student workshop that will benefit students and new professionals in their career development. Workgroup members also help with identifying competencies that will help students, provide feedback for the justification toolkit, and creating a conference roadmap. Workload demand is in June-September and then finalizing details leading up to the annual conference.

Social Event Workgroup: Plan and organize social engagement within budget parameters, such as Exhibit Hall activities, Wellness Challenges, Hospitality Table, dine arounds, volunteer engagement, etc. The majority of this work is June-December and then finalizing details leading up to the annual conference.

The chair is responsible for leading the committee meetings, ensuring the committee captures minutes, participate in workgroup meetings, and pre-planning meetings. It is recommended that the Chair has served as Vice Chair or on the committee for at least one year.

The Vice Chair is responsible for co-leading the committee meetings, participate in workgroup meetings (that the chair cannot attend), participate in pre-planning meetings, and step into the Chair role in the following term. This role is a 2-year commitment. It is recommended that Vice Chairs have served on the committee for at least one year.
