Gauging Interest in a Tour of Mexico's Colonial Highlands

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on this idea!

To further elaborate on our vision of a tour, here is what we have in mind:
  • Locations: Guadalajara, Tequila, Lake Chapala (Ajijic), San Miguel de Allende, and Guanajuato.
  • Accommodation: 3-4 star hotels
  • Transportation: A mix of private drivers, taxis, and luxury bus for long distances.
  • Length: TBD, but 9 days is our vision
  • Activeness: Moderate. There would some days in which there would be up to a mile or so of leisurely walking during sightseeing over a prolonged period of time. But that's about as strenuous as we'll get. And for anyone who desires to be more active, we'd be happy to lead an optional hike or two, in Ajijic and Guanajuato.
  • Meals: There would be a heavy emphasis on local food, both of gastronomic Mexican cuisine and trusted local fare. Some group meals would be included in the trip cost while other meals would be at own expense. (Any vegetarians or celiacs could be catered for.)
  • Safety: The specific areas we'd be visiting throughout Mexico's colonial highlands are all not only known to be quite safe but also tend to be exceptionally warm and friendly.
  • Sample activities:
▪️Visiting Guadalajara's famous churches and museums,
▪️A full day of touring the town of Tequila while visiting distilleries, the blue agave fields, and notable cantinas,
▪️Experiencing Guadalajara's Sunday bike ride tradition,
▪️Watching a traditional mariachi performance,
▪️Attending a lucha libre wrestling match,
▪️A spa day to include such unique treatments as a chocolate bath,
▪️Horseback riding in the mountains and on the lakefront,
▪️Luxury bus ride through the Mexican countryside,
▪️Guided yet informal sightseeing walks through the UNESCO-listed towns of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato,
▪️Touring inside an old silver mine and ancient hacienda,
▪️Visiting Guanajuato's fascinating Mummy Museum, and
▪️Indulging in fine Mexican gastronomy, of course.

  • Cost: To be determined. Do know that it is extremely important for us to keep this trip affordable, without sacrificing quality. To give you some rough idea, we definitely foresee a cost somewhere under $100/day, including accommodation.
The trip will have an emphasis on cultural immersion. We want to introduce you to the friendly people and the customs of the area, whether that be learning about the tradition of mariachi or how to drink tequila properly. We'd also want our guests to enjoy local experiences that visitors to this area regularly miss, like attending lucha libre match and taking a leisurely pedal with the thousands of Tapatios (Guadalajaran residents) during their Sunday bike ride.

But ultimately our aim is to provide a super fun time while enjoying all the beauty Mexico has to offer! And you'd have two very fun tour guides with an intimate knowledge of the area to show you around our absolute favorite places. These are places we've handpicked during our extensive traveling and living in Mexico over the past few years and the personal connections we've made. We would take great pleasure to further help with translations, answer your burning questions, and introduce you to this fascinating country, all while leading you on a seamless itinerary.
