About Pathway to Med School (PTMS) and how you can help
PTMS is an annual, intensive, residential program hosted by Foothills Area Health Education Center (AHEC) for 8 pre-med students (either undergraduate, graduate, or recent grads) who are Georgia residents, preferably from rural and/or medically underserved areas, and who show a demonstrated interest in practicing primary care in our state. One of the main components of the program is completing 80 hours of clinical shadowing with primary care physicians in our 31 counties in northeast Georgia. Clinical shadowing opportunities are needed from Thursday, May 25 – Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Hosting students for clinical shadowing means allowing the student to come and observe a “day in the life” of a primary care physician. The goal is to provide these students with a memorable experience that will encourage them to pursue practicing primary care in our state, particularly in northeast Georgia. Simply show them what you love about primary care!
We are flexible and willing to work with your schedule - just let us know when you are available to have a student for any of the dates listed below. Any contribution is helpful. Please contact Lana Brand, Foothills AHEC's Preceptor Coordinator, at 770-533-1052 or at clinicaltraining@foothillsahec.org with any questions or if you prefer to share your availability by email or over the phone.
