Donor Survey on Political Bridge-Building and Improving Democracy

What can donors do to help fix American democracy?

This survey is conducted by the Healthy Democracy Coalition and NEXUS, a network of several thousand philanthropists, entrepreneurs, allies and more.  We received support from the Hewlett Foundation and partnered with the Fetzer Institute to build a new coalition of donors to collaborate on upgrading and improving American democracy.  We will focus on healing partisan divides, improving democratic institutions and processes, and developing more effective and functional systems for US political decision-making and governance.  If you are a donor (or preparing to become one) and wish to become part of a group of like-minded peers, please take this survey.  For more about our work visit www.democracycoalition.org

10.Why are you interested in joining a group of peers in philanthropy?
11.Improving democracy is a complex task. Do you have a particular cause or focus in your giving? If so, please explain.

(Some in our network have written about their focus on: healing relationships, fact checking, the fairness doctrine, media integrity, budgeting, voter access, campaign financing, third party candidates, electoral reform, redistricting, etc. Some have written about specific issues, including criminal justice reform, immigration reform, education reform, and more.)
12.What is your primary giving vehicle?
13.We are developing a national coalition of hundreds of philanthropists who wish to learn together and donate a substantial amount of money over the next several years to support political bridge-building as well as healthier and more effective US democracy.

Without yet seeing any details yet, how much money would you theoretically like to donate over the next five years to these causes?
14.Given your response above, what do you think should be the minimum "giving level" for members of this new network?
15.Are there any philanthropists or philanthropic institutions that you think we should reach out to in order to build this network? Please provide names, emails, phone numbers etc. as appropriate.
16.Are there any particular thought leaders, think tanks, or non profits that you think we should partner with? Please provide names, emails, phone numbers etc. as appropriate.
