Inclusivity for LGBT adults over age 50 in Calhoun and Barry Counties

It is estimated that there are currently more than 2 million adults over age 65 who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, although the number is vastly underreported. This number is anticipated to grow significantly over the next 15 years as individuals identified as boomers age-in to senior services and require care to remain independent.

As an Area Agency on Aging, we are Federally mandated under Title VI to provide services without discrimination based on a person’s race, sex, or national origin. However, as an organization that values respect, compassion and integrity, we also remain committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in programs or services based on age, race, ethnicity or national origin, sex, religion, language, education, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status or disability.

Region 3B AAA desires to increase our awarenss of issues, barriers, needs, and preferences of LGBT who may seek services from our network.

The following survey is part of our efforts in this area. Following the survey, a list of recommendations will be created to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for LGBT older adults seeking older adults services in Barry and Calhoun counties.

Your participation is important to this process. We are seeking responses from a broad variety of individuals. All responses are entirely confidential and anonymous.

If you have questions regarding this survey please contact Karla Fales, CEO, Region 3B Area Agency on Aging at 269-966-2450 or info@region3b.org.
