What is this study about?

This study aims to investigate the effect of perceived stress and fatigue on flight performance in commercial pilots in Europe. The study aims to investigate the relationship between fatigue and stress on performance using a European population of commercial pilots who are currently operating. 

Why have I been chosen?

You have been asked to participate in this study because you are a commercial pilot operating in Europe.

What will happen if I agree to take part in this study?

If you agree to participate you will be asked to complete three small questionnaires. The questionnaires will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.  

The right to withdraw?

Your participation is entirely voluntary. If you initially decide to take part you can subsequently change your mind and withdraw from the study without difficulty. 

Are there any risks associated with participation in this study?

The risks associated with participation in this study are minimal. Should any of these questions cause upset there are contact details below for relevant support.

What are the benefits to participating in this study?

There are no direct benefits to you from participating in this study. However, the knowledge gained from research in this area can contribute to our understanding of how stress and fatigue effects performance levels of pilots in Europe and could contribute to the setting of human factors and safety standards. The findings from this study may be presented at conferences and for publication however no individual will be identified.


All data obtained will be strictly confidential. Anonymity of participants is paramount in this study. No identity of individuals or of airline will be asked.
