FIRST Summer Preview Application 2012

FIRST Summer Preview Program Application

Program Dates: July 9 – July 27

This is your chance to take your first Clemson University course. A top grade in this class can jump start a high GPR as you begin your degree program. The course will satisfy a General Education requirement, which is necessary for graduation and will save you from taking a course later. Consider this boot camp for freshman year. You will experience college life and the responsibilities that come with it. If you’re looking to have a good time and boost your college success, this program is for you!

The FIRST Summer Preview Program has a limited number of spaces and students are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. You can expect notification of your placement in early June. Upon acceptance, you will receive detailed information to prepare you for your experience.

The FIRST Summer Preview is open only to students who are attending Clemson University in the fall 2012. It is required that you complete the Clemson University Mathematics Placement Test at mthsc.clemson.edu/CMPT before you can be accepted to the FIRST Summer Preview. Although your acceptance is not based on ability, the test determines your Clemson math placement and will affect your academic future. After completing the CMPT, complete the FIRST Summer Program Application at clemson.edu/first. Click on the Summer Preview 2012 tab to find the application. Participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The summer course BIOSC 203: Environment, Energy and Society examines the role of energy on this planet, its role in driving ecosystems and society, the modern processes of power and energy production by man, the resultant interactions with the environment, and the overall relationship between these technologies and the development and structure of society. The course introduces historical and contemporary sources of energy and power as well as the economic, social, and political forces important for types and patterns of development. It introduces relationship between these forces and the resultant impacts to ecosystems and the environment.

Remember, FIRST is NOT just a summer program. Many students participate in the program their first year on campus. Just go online to our website and fill out the short and simple 2012-2013 Student Application.
