Introduction

The City of Washougal is beginning the master planning process for Schmid Family Park, a 17.8-acre site located near the bend of the Washougal River. This special property was acquired with support from Clark County’s Conservation Futures Program and the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office to protect its natural features and provide future park space for Washougal residents.

The park offers a rare opportunity to combine ecological restoration, shoreline access, and passive recreation in a floodplain setting, while also supporting active community use in its upland area. The lower park area—approximately 13 acres—includes riverfront and floodplain, offering scenic views, riparian habitat, and natural open space. The upper 5 acres, located adjacent to 32nd Street, are more developable and suitable for features such as gathering spaces, play areas, or multi-use recreation.

We are committed to designing a park that reflects the values, priorities, and aspirations of our community. Your input will help us make informed choices about park features, amenities, access, and programming—so thank you for taking the time to share your ideas.
