Program Description and Commitment of Interns

CEI is pleased to announce our curated 6-week fall internship program for local high school students. The purpose of this internship is to:
  • provide an immersive experience where participants can explore their relationship with the environment in which we live;
  • Create a welcome, refreshing, and collaborative social space for all students;
  • Learn about the benefits of a rich connection to nature for individuals, families and friends, and communities;
  • Consider the various challenges to connecting with nature on individual, interpersonal, and community levels;
  • Develop unique solutions for above-mentioned challenges; and
  • Develop transferable skills in the areas of ecology, art, community development, agriculture, and advocacy.
The 6-week program will run from October 5th through November 12th. Interns will participate in 2-hour sessions twice a week on Wednesdays, 3:30pm-5:30pm (or sunset), and Saturdays 10am - 12pm or 12pm - 2pm at Freetown Farm, in Columbia, MD. Given other school year commitments, interns have the flexibility to attend Wednesday and/or Saturday sessions if both are not viable.  Additional asynchronous activities including videos to watch, readings, and reflective exercises will be provided each week.

We are looking for interns that are respectful, enthusiastic, collaborative, and have a strong interest in CEI's areas of work. Interns will grow their comfort in a farm environment where they will learn by doing substantial hands-on work. If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Theresa Taylor, Director of Adult Programs at ttaylor@cei.earth.
