1. Re-Shaping ALCTS for the Future

Dear ALCTS Member,

Over the last year or so, ALCTS through a number of events has been looking at how our structure fits into today's library environment. It is often mentioned that we don't reflect what is happening in 21st century libraries. The importance of structuring ALCTS so current and future members see opportunities and value in ALCTS is crucial to our future growth. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey so you can contribute your thoughts to the conversation about creating the future ALCTS.

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

Mary Case,
ALCTS President

Question Title

To produce the desired outcomes and provide value to its members, ALCTS must have a structure that is relevant to our current and potential members; responds quickly to member needs; shapes, monitors and adapts readily to emerging areas; and is transparent to navigate. The ALCTS Board of Directors is committed to creating such a structure as best we can and has embarked on a process to create the future ALCTS.

Three organizational scenarios have been developed and are posted in ALCTS Connect and on the website. The link is in the accompanying email message. You can also find the scenarios under Issues & Advocacy and then ALCTS Issues on the ALCTS Website: www.ala.org/alcts.

We now seek your input and feedback. These were developed to start the conversation on what a future ALCTS would look like. We are asking that you take a look at the scenarios and then tell us what you think.

First, if you had to choose one of the scenarios right now, which would you choose?

Question Title

Now tell us why you chose that particular Scenario. What did you like about it? Did you dislike anything about it? How could we improve it?

Question Title

What about the Scenarios you didn't choose? Was there anything you liked about them that would be worthwhile considering? Please identify Scenarios.

Question Title

If none of the scenarios above reflect what your ideal Scenario would be for creating a future ALCTS, what would your ideal Scenario look like?
