Van Sant Fellow Application (Priority Deadline: Dec. 15, 2019. Final Deadline Jan 3rd)

A $1500 grant ($750 per semester) will be awarded to first-year students who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership and academic scholarship during high school. Finalists will be selected by a committee and interviewed at a scholarship interview day on Feb. 1st (please hold this date) or by telephone. The grant will be awarded on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Demonstrated commitment to leadership
2. A cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or above
3. Ability to design and implement leadership programming on campus

The grant will be reviewed each semester and renewed based on the student’s good academic standing and fulfillment of the scholarship responsibilities.

Students selected to serve as Van Sant Fellows join the Center for Community Engagement's cohort of leadership fellows at Otterbein, a group of students who coordinate a leadership development series, weekend leadership retreat and a campus-wide leadership summit through the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). They are supervised by the Program Coordinator of the CCE.

EXPECTATIONS of a Van Sant Leadership Fellow

- Attend monthly meetings with all Van Sant Leadership Fellows
- Attend monthly one-on-ones with Center for Community Engagement staff
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average while at Otterbein.
-Serve 4-8 hours each month serving for a local Westerville Partner
- Attend all Center for Community Engagement service events

First-Year Van Sant Fellows:
- Attend 10 Van Sant Leadership Workshops

Sophomore - Senior Van Sant Fellows:
- Plan and implement information sessions for The Van Sant Leadership Program
- Attend resources fairs, Connections Fairs, First Friday Events on behalf of The Van Sant Leadership Program
- Attend workshops to set up materials, introduce facilitators, answer questions, collect evaluations, and tear down materials
- Plan and implement the annual Cardinal Leadership Summit for all students
