Exploring the What, Why, and How of Practice

Thanks for your interest in our 4 week study and practice course. The aim of our work together will be to provide you with an understanding of essential Buddhist ideas and practice. This class is open to all. It is designed with the beginner in mind, but we certainly welcome anyone with experience as well.

What do we mean by dharma practice? Why would we take up a practice? How should we practice? These are the questions we will explore together in this 4 week introductory course to Buddhist practice. Ellen and Eric will offer some thoughts on topics like mindfulness, compassion, wisdom, ethics, and effort as well as offer practical guidance for meditation practice both on and off the cushion. We'll leave plenty of time each week for questions and group discussion.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings, on Zoom, between 7:00pm and 8:30pm on the following dates : 4/22, 4/29, 5/7, and 5/13.

This is not a drop in class like many of our other offerings. We request that you commit to make at least 3 of the 4 classes before signing up.

Please also make sure you have signed up for our mailing list. You can do so on our homepage. This is not necessary if you received the invitation to sign up for class from an e-mail from us. Question Title

3. We do have a few requirements for this class :
  • A commitment to attend at least three of the classes. This is not a drop-in class. If you must miss one class, that is understandable, but if you miss two, that will constitute dropping the class. Having everyone attend consistently allows us to cover a lot of ground, to form a community of interest, and to investigate in depth.
  • The intention to practice at least 15 minutes a day. There will be no reading or other "homework," but a key part of the class will be discussing how the concepts we introduce in the class come alive for you during your practice as well as your everyday life. As we will discuss, eventually the distinction between everyday life and practice disappears.
  • The ability to use Zoom (you do not need a zoom account, just a good internet connection from a device which supports both video and audio.)
  • Respect for all those attending the class.
