Call for field testers- My Eyes My Vision

My Eyes My Vision provides a framework to build the basic concepts of the anatomy of the eye, how the visual system works, and the breakdowns in the system that lead to a visual impairment. Participants in this program will develop the communication skills necessary to raise awareness about having an eye condition and build the confidence to communicate visual needs amongst instructors, peers, family, medical professionals, and the general public. The materials are designed for students K-12 of all abilities, and stages of vision loss and are inclusive to sighted, low vision, and blind populations.
The curriculum and eye diagrams, tactile eye model pieces, and textured models of different views of the eye, along with other activities teach about the parts and functions of the human eye providing the skills necessary to communicate what having an eye condition means to the student, how to spell and define the eye condition, and the accommodations needed to help become independent and successful in the classroom, home and community.
The materials come with a glossary of eye terminology and a glossary of eye conditions for the student to learn parts of the eye, how light travels through the eye and breakdowns in the visual system that cause vision loss. Students will learn self-advocacy skills to communicate having an eye condition by creating a visual abilities statement.
Field test evaluators will be asked to use the prototypes directly with their students who are blind or have low vision. Evaluators will then complete an online product evaluation form at the end of the testing period. Field test sites will be selected based on geographic location, available number of students, and type of instructional setting. The number of available field test prototypes is limited.
