NICU Neuroscience This survey has been created by Leo’s (Registered Charity 1179901) as part of our NICU Neuroscience Training Project that is funded by the Woodsmith Foundation. Its purpose is to explore the potential physiological and psychological impact of a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay on the nervous system, vagus nerve and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) symptoms. The findings will help us inform the training we deliver to clinical teams and support the development of resources to educate parents about signs of vagus nerve and nervous system dysregulation. This survey has been created by those with lived experience of the neonatal unit. What the survey involvesYou will be asked a series of questions about: Your physical and mental health in relation to your neonatal experience Whether certain symptoms were present before, during, or after your neonatal stay Basic background information (such as your age, where you live, your baby’s gestation at birth, the length of your NICU stay & how long it has been since you have left the neonatal unit) Important information Your participation is completely voluntary. All responses are anonymous – you will not be asked for identifying details or to recall specific events from your neonatal stay. This survey is not a diagnostic tool. It is designed only to give us an overview of common experiences so we can better understand and raise awareness of the impact of the neonatal stay on parents.
