The Hotline is conducting a survey to learn about survivor experiences with firearms and gender-based violence. Firearms can be used as tools to threaten, coerce, or harm a survivor of intimate partner violence, examples included an abusive partner shooting a firearm at or near a survivor, making a verbal threat to use a firearm to kill a survivor, someone they know, or themselves, or using a firearm to create a feeling of fear.

Through this survey, we aim to learn more on the prevalence of firearms and abuse. The data and insights gained through this survey are instrumental in formulating policies, trainings, additional support and expanding resources for those impacted by firearms and abuse. At the end of this survey, you will have the opportunity to share your experience related to firearms and abuse in detail.

The survey is completely anonymous. Your name and other identifying information will not be linked to anything you share. There are no major risks to participating; however, it is possible to experience discomfort answering questions related to firearms and abuse. To access support or referrals through the National Domestic Violence Hotline, call 1-800-799-SAFE or text “START” to 88788. If you are currently experiencing violence or are worried about your safety, please visit the Get Help section. We estimate this survey will take around 10 minutes to complete. You can choose to not participate in the survey.
