STHS McAllen da Vinci 5 Robot Naming Contest
South Texas Health System McAllen, a Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, is expanding its Robotic Surgery Program with the addition of a second da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgical System.
The latest robotic-assisted surgical technology from Intuitive Surgical, the da Vinci 5 is designed to enhance surgical precision, efficiency and patient outcomes.
Following the successful naming of the hospital's first robotic surgical system in 2025, ChRIS (Comprehensive Robotic Intelligence Surgeon), STHS McAllen is inviting local students to help name its newest surgical robot through a special Name the Robot Contest.
Students interested in participating are encouraged to submit their naming idea using the official entry form no later than Friday, September 11, 2026.
The winning name will be unveiled during the hospital's official robot naming ceremony in late September or early October. The contest winner will receive a special prize and have the opportunity to take a photo with the robot at its new home in the STHS McAllen Surgical Services Department.
