Bioenergy for Kitselas - Community Survey
The Kitselas Housing department is looking into building a bioenergy facility in Gitaus that could create electricity and heat for new buildings or provide a back-up power supply. The facility would burn wood waste, which would otherwise be discarded. The facility may also generate by-products that could be sold for a profit, such as biochar which is used by gardeners to enhance soil.
The positive benefits of the bioenergy facility would produce another form of consistent energy for Gitaus; create additional jobs; and provide a self-sustained form of energy.
The project is funded by Strategic Partnerships Initiative’s Northern and Remote Forests Biomass Initiative administered by the Natural Resources Canada’s Indigenous Forestry Initiative Program.
