This survey is to be used to gather information to help develop the next Kiama Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-26.
Help us make Kiama a more inclusive and accessible place to live and work
We are currently developing our new Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) for 2022-26.
All members of our community share responsibility for creating an accessible and inclusive community. That’s why we’re seeking your input to help us create a set of realistic and achievable priorities for our Plan through a survey.
This survey should take about 17 minutes to complete and we’re offering a $100 gift voucher for one lucky survey respondent (to be chosen via a draw) as encouragement to complete the whole survey.
It seeks to identify the effectiveness of our current access and inclusion practices, potential areas for improvement and opportunities for new services for people with disability.
Our DIAP will follow legislation and government policy guidelines, our strategic plan and direction, as well as external consultation. These will ensure we gather knowledge, experiences and priorities from our community and other stakeholders with disability.
Kiama Council can’t implement all ideas and address all issues, but we still want to know what are the main issues so we understand the community’s priorities so that we can focus on these.
So please don’t hold back from making any suggestions or raising any issues, but know that we can’t commit to implementing all ideas.
Disability is defined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 to include physical, intellectual, sensory, psychiatric, neurological, and learning disability. However, it is often more useful to think of the barriers that people with disability face, including physical, communication, social, economic and attitudinal barriers – and what we all need to put in place to remove these barriers.
All responses are anonymous and we encourage you to be honest with your responses. If you feel you don’t know enough to comment on a particular section, please answer as best you can or leave that section blank.

We appreciate your feedback, which will help shape our new Plan.
