City of Wanneroo Youth Reference Group (YRG) application

The City of Wanneroo is developing a new Youth Leadership and Empowerment Model. The aim of this work is to listen to young people about what youth leadership pathways they want and how they want to have a say on plans and decisions that impact them.

This is where you come in! We are looking for eight young people aged 14 to 22 who live, study, work, or play in the City of Wanneroo to join a short-term Youth Reference Group (YRG). As a member of this group, you will:
- Help design a survey and workshop to talk to other young people
- Share the survey with your friends
- Co-design a new Youth Leadership and Engagement Model for the City of Wanneroo

There will be three sessions and you need to be able to commit to all three (to the best of your knowledge).

Session 1: Saturday 9th May, 10am to 2.30pm (4.5 hours) - includes lunch
Session 2: Tuesday 2nd June, 4.30pm to 6.30pm (2 hours) - includes snacks
Session 3: Tuesday 16th June, 4.30pm to 6.30pm (2 hours) - includes snacks

The first session will be in person at the Wanneroo Civic Centre in Wanneroo. Sessions 2 and 3 may be hybrid (some in person and some online) depending on the needs of the group.

This is a paid opportunity. You will receive a $200 for the first session, and then $100 for sessions 2 and 3 each This is a total of $400 for all three. You will be reimbursed by a VISA EFTPOS gift card.

As part of this work, we want you to share the survey that you help develop through your networks (family, friends and acquaintances) and ask you aim for 40 people you know completing it. The survey phase will run early May through to early June.

This application to be part of the YRG closes on Sunday 3rd May. You can have someone help you fill out the application (such as a youth worker, teacher, coach, Elder, family member).

You will be advised by Wednesday 6th May if you have been selected to participate and you will need to be available for the first meeting.

This process is being run by the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA) on behalf of the City of Wanneroo. If you have any questions, please contact Poppy Sloan at poppy@yacwa.org.au / 0499 544 087 or Lianda Gibson at lianda@yacwa.org.au / 0499 781 318.

We want YRG to be a diverse representation of young people in the City of Wanneroo community. We strongly encourage applications from young people from all over the City. If you think that it might not be accessible for you, reach out to us and we can talk about what we might be able to change.
