'Feed the Funnel for 9/11 Day' Campus Hunger Relief Program Application |
APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 8, 2023
Background:
Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, leaders within the 9/11 community, including those who lost loved ones, joined together to establish the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, known widely today as “9/11 Day.” Over the past 22 years, 9/11 Day has grown to become the largest annual day of charitable service in the nation, officially recognized under federal law, with more than 30 million people and countless organizations participating in the observance each year.
The 9/11 Day nonprofit organization and AmeriCorps are seeking campus-led initiatives to participate in organizing volunteer service activities, focused on hunger relief, on U.S. college campuses. These projects will produce, healthy non-perishable meals for people who are at risk of hunger on campus and in their local communities, and help build awareness of the 9/11 Day observance among students, many of whom may have little or no memory of 9/11.
Our goal is to mobilize 2,500 students at select colleges around the nation, and pack as many as one million healthy non-perishable meals in observance of 9/11 Day, 2023. Up to ten campuses will be selected as grant winners. Meals packed on campuses will be distributed to local organizations within those respective communities, as chosen by the colleges.
Under this program, if selected, your organization college will receive “seed” funding to help you create, organize, promote and implement your own “Feed the Funnel for 9/11 Day” meal packing event. For a 50K meal event, you will receive $8,000 in seed funding, and be required to raise $12,000 by June 1, 2023. For a 100K meal event, you will receive $16,000 in funding and be required to raise an additional $24,000 by June 1, 2023. Online training, meal packing equipment, food supplies and other resources will be provided.
Requirements/Eligibility:
Applicants will need to demonstrate their ability to raise additional funds, and experience in executing events of this nature successfully in collaboration with their school advisors or administrators.
