Festival of Outback Skies Art Competition 2026 Terms and Conditions The FOOS Art Competition is free to artists to enter and is for any visual media except film, video and installation unless prior arrangements for display have been made.Eligibility Artists of all experience levels and ages are welcome to apply. Artwork requirements Artists may have multiple entries across various mediums. Artworks must be recently completed in 2025 or 2026. Artworks must respond to the exhibition theme, Outback Skies. Entries must be the original work of the entrant. You certify that you are the creator of the artwork submitted. Works may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional and in any medium except film, video and installations unless prior contact has been made regarding display. Works must be dry and exhibition-ready when submitted on the day. For framed / hanging works, d-rings must be securely attached to the back (on both sides, down approximately one-third of the height of the work from the top). Unframed works on paper will be displayed with adhesives For hanging artworks, a weight restriction of 10kg applies. Sculptural works will be displayed on plinths. Exhibition staff and volunteers will retain the integrity of art pieces to the best of our abilities however we can offer no complete guarantee that pieces will be returned in original condition. Exhibition staff and volunteers will endeavour to give first preference to artists who request a specific display method. FSC reserves the right to reject entries or works that are deemed unsafe, offensive, unsuitable for display, or those which do not otherwise comply with the conditions of entry. Opportunity for Sales Whilst FSC may not have staffing capacity to carry out sales of artworks, artists and interested buyers may organise for private sales of artworks. FSC staff may help facilitate the private sale by connecting interested buyer to the artist, however, FSC do not have the staffing capacity to handle the money for sales. Entry Process Entries must be submitted online via the Festival of Outback Skies website by 5pm Friday 24 April 2026. Delivery Delivery of artworks by 5pm Thursday 30 April 2026 at Woolshed Pavilion, Hughenden Showgrounds. Upon delivery, each work must have a label attached which clearly identifies the artist's name and the full artwork details. The arrangement and expenses for the delivery and collection of entries are the responsibility of the entrant. If the artist is organising for someone else to collect the work on their behalf, please make FSC staff aware. All artworks must be available to be exhibited for the entire duration of the exhibition, (1 - 3 May 2026) and collect on Monday 4 May 2026 between 9-11am. Prizes and Opportunities A $1,000 Art Prize will be awarded to one entrant’s work as chosen by the guest judge/s. Judging of this prize will take place on Saturday 2 May 2026, with announcements at the Festival Finale event on Sunday 3 May 2026. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote for a $500 people choice cash prize. This category will be announced on Sunday 3 May 2026 at the Festival Finale. Photography and Promotion The artist authorises FSC to use photography of their artwork/s for the following purposes: displaying or exhibiting the work in public promoting the work: by having a digital image or / photograph or video of the work made which is then provided to or made available to the public or to clients by publishing a digital image or / photograph or video of the work on social media platforms, newsletters and other platforms printing an image of the work and displaying or distributing to a mailing list for no charge other uses of a similar nature to those outlined above that are made as part of promoting the work. The artist acknowledges that visitors to the exhibition are permitted to take photographs and videos of the works. Insurance and Indemnity The Artist agrees that the artwork is exhibited at their own risk. Flinders Shire Council will exercise all reasonable care of your artworks but will not be responsible for any loss or damage whilst in their custody or on public display. Artists are advised to hold their own insurance coverage against loss, damage, theft, and possible destruction of the artwork for the exhibition period, including freighting to and from the festival space, time of installation and time of pick-up. Artists can access affordable Public Liability Insurance as part of NAVA’s Premium Plus membership. APPLICATION RESERVATIONS Council reserves the right at any time to: Accept, reject, or exclude any entry Select one or more respondents to enter negotiations or submit further proposals to the Flinders Shire Council.
