One of the Commission’s key roles is to ‘lend a helping hand’ to enable the sector to improve the quality and safety of services. The quality improvement programmes are one of the main mechanisms through which we do this, and over the last five years have resulted in significant reductions in harm and associated costs.

The quality improvement programmes are a mix of ongoing investment in core safety programmes and high harm areas, and focused investment in specific areas to support change becoming sustainable over time. Our current programmes include: Safe Surgery NZ, Infection Prevention & Control, Reducing Harm from Falls, Medications Safety, Patient Deterioration and the Primary Care programme. The Commission’s portfolio of quality improvement programmes have recently expanded to provide a wider breadth of programmes across the entire health and disability sector, including primary care, mental health and addictions, and aged residential care.

We are keen to get your views on the support the Commission provides the sector through our quality improvement programmes. What areas should the Commission focus on, and how can we best support local quality improvement?

We would be grateful if you could spare 5 minutes to provide us with your feedback.
