U.S. and Canadian African Grey Population

Welcome to our Anonymous African Grey Survey

Thank you for participating in our survey, which is anonymous unless you choose to provide contact information for future updates. Your feedback is important.
Misinformation regarding the populations of many exotic species in the U.S. and Canada has led to harmful legislation that may make caring for some exotic birds illegal in 25 states, and African Greys are potentially at risk. Our goal in collecting this data as knowledgeable aviculturists is to guide law-makers to common sense legislation that is based on factual data, and not speculation.

In an effort to realize the total number of African Greys, we are asking for anyone with an African Grey to please take part in this survey. In doing so, we may be able to protect our privilege to care for these amazing birds in our lives now and in the future.

We are asking pet owners, as well as breeders, rescues and retail shops, to help in this endeavor.

The only question that is mandatory is category involvement.  So, please answer as few or as many questions as you feel comfortable with.  We are just looking for a good approximation. The American Pet Product Association, in their 2014-2015 survey, says there are approximately 1.1 million pet African Greys in the United States. One half of the States in the USA could make it impossible to keep African Greys, if our regulations change.

*Unknown grey category is provided for pet owners unsure of the species they own; however it is most helpful if you can correctly identify the species of African Grey in your care.

*You can remain anonymous; however it is helpful to know which state or province and country you are located in.  If you wish to be contacted further regarding any updates about legislation, surveys, and captive breeding programs in the US, please provide your email address.
