Substitute teacher availability September - October 2017 - primary level
CPSMA survey: current availability of substitute teachers at primary level September - October 2017
Dear Principal,
The Minister for Education stated recently in response to Parliamentary Questions regarding his plans to address the shortage of supply of substitute teachers in primary level education that "In overall terms, my Department has no evidence of a recent or current shortage of primary teachers". The written answer may be accessed at: https://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id=2017-10-19a.238&s=speaker%3A432#g239.q
That is not what our members are saying to us.
CPSMA wishes to identify the current level of availability of casual substitute teachers to schools at primary level. A non-casual substitute is a teacher (either full-time or part-time) who is employed under a contract which obliges him or her to work in a school for a period in excess of 150 hours during the school year, or in the case of a national teacher in excess of 40 working days during the school year.
We would be very grateful if you could complete the short 9 question survey below which will assist us in putting the case for urgent action on this issue to the Department of Education and Skills.
Please note that the data supplied will be collated and generalised to hard data for discussions with DES. No individual school or principal will be identified.
