Why do we need to zone the Royal BC Museum's site?
Zoning needs to be appropriate for what we need to do now and in the future, and will allow the Royal BC Museum to do what it needs to do to realize its long term vision.
Rezoning is the first step in realizing our Vision - to reach more British Columbians, forge stronger connections in communities and classrooms, and exhibit and share our stories in the most engaging way possible.
The Royal BC Museum's property is currently zoned R2 - Two Family residential - and does not legally allow for what we currently do and limits what we can do on this site. It's not very pracical for a museum and archives.
We're asking the City of Victoria for a comprehensive development (CD) zone that will allow all uses that we currently operate, and those that we can imagine the site will need, now and decades down the road.
We look forward to hearing what you have to think about this project!
