RE-POST OF 2017-2018 SD2 Calendar Survey.
We've extended the Calendar Survey and have added a question in regards to Middle School and Elementary Parent Teacher Conferences.
The Billings Public Schools calendar committee works diligently to create yearly, school calendars that we believe best serve our kids. We value and seriously evaluate all input from our community. Please complete the following survey. It is important to know that in creating the yearly calendars, the committee faces many parameters that dictate various parts of the calendar. We've listed some of these important parameters below:
- Montana State law requires 180 days of school. We try to get as close to 90 days per semester as possible.
- School District #2 and Rimrock Auto Arena have a yearly contract to hold graduations on the Sunday prior to Memorial Day. Due to other large events held at the Metra, it is very difficult to negotiate a different day for graduation.
- By Montana State Office of Public Instruction regulations, high school seniors can be released from school no more than 5 days prior to the official end of the school year. Therefore, we must end school within 5 days after graduation.
- By contract, 7 Pupil Instruction Related days are required.
- MEA Days are always held the third Thursday and Friday in October.
- Our Billings high schools have the privilege of hosting both the regional music festival in April and state music festival in May. Because of the number of students involved and the space required, we schedule the April PIR Day and the early May vacation day to coincide with these events.
- Testing dates as set by Montana Office of Public Instruction often impact how we assign our vacation days.
- Snow Day - Montana State law allows school districts to cancel one day of school due to snow or other poor weather without making up that day. SD2 has decided to plan for one additional day that could be lost due to poor weather. The Snow Day (SD on the calendar) is a scheduled vacation day that would be used as a make-up day if needed. Through a previous community survey, it was determined that this day would be scheduled on the first day of spring vacation, Thursday, March 29 2018 and Thursday, April 18 2019.
NOTE: The survey will re-open on Monday, December 18th and close on Friday, January 12th.
