Specialist Practice Support Incentive Application

The 2023 Physician Agreement provides a practice support incentive payment for eligible specialists. The Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) will provide an annual payment of $25,000 to eligible specialists practising in Nova Scotia, including both Royal College–certified specialists and those functional specialists whom Nova Scotia Health would replace with a Royal College–certified specialist.

To be eligible for the 2025 incentive, the specialist must meet the following criteria:

1. Pay for office space in the community or within an NSH facility (only rent or lease costs are considered)

2. Have minimum total MSI billings or equivalent payment through a specialty contract of $150,000 in the previous fiscal year

3. Participate in facility on-call schedule, as required

4. Have been actively practising in Nova Scotia as of April 1, 2025

5. Use Ocean and the centralized e-referral process as part of the practice, if applicable to the physician’s specialty

6. Actively use a DHW-approved EMR

Physicians who meet these eligibility criteria must complete this short survey that will be used to confirm eligibility for this incentive. All responses received will be subject to a verification process facilitated by the DHW to ensure eligibility criteria have been met.
