GOTV 2020 Volunteers Survey

Phone Banking: Making phone calls in support of Democratic candidates is now the most convenient way to volunteer since door knocking will not be conducted. Training on the current message and using the automatic dialers is available. Various opportunities change on a week-by-week basis, and hours are flexible.

Distributing paper door hangers: Paper door hangers - describing “Vote by Mail” information on one side and candidate info on the back side – will be slipped over door knobs of targeted residences in the borough and township. There is no interaction with homeowners – just slip the paper hanger over the door knob and move on to the next address. Individuals and/or teams will follow paper or electronic lists on smart phones. The tentative days for door hanger distribution are Saturday and Sunday, September 12th/ 13th.

Placing Candidate Lawn Signs Around Newtown Borough and Newtown Township: Work as a part of multiple teams to place lawn signs along strategic travel routes. Tentative dates for these activities are Saturday and Sunday, September 19th/20th or September 26th/27th.

Placing Candidate Lawn Signs at Borough and Township Polling Locations for Election Day: A limited number of signs from each candidate will be placed along the entrance to each polling location and also by the building’s entry point. Signs can be placed after 5 p.m. on Monday, November 2nd. Volunteers can work as individuals or in two-person teams.

Work as an Election Day Greeter Outside the Entrance of Polling Locations: Volunteers will work in two-hour shifts (from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. outside each borough and township polling location. Responsibilities include greeting voters, distributing the Democratic “Goldenrod” endorsed candidate voting guide, answering any voter questions, and watching for any voting problems/irregularities.

Working as an Inside Volunteer Election Watcher at Polling Locations: In the May Primary Election, the Board of Elections did not have enough paid Election Officials to assist with voter activities once voters entered the polling area. Some of our Committee Persons volunteered to work alongside Election Officials to improve the voting process. It is not known at this time whether the Board of Elections will have all of the Election Officials needed on Election Day. We are looking for contingent volunteers just in case they are needed. IMPORTANT: Volunteers working inside the polls need a Bucks County Watcher’s Certificate credential to do so. We must apply for these certificates soon in order for them to be available on Election Day.

Work as a Paid Election Day Official: If you would like to work as a paid Bucks County Election Day Official, please let us know and we will supply you with information on how to apply to the Board of Elections.

Work as a Vote Count Observer at Borough and Township Polling Locations: The observer works inside after the polls close to verify that no vote tally issues take place. This role starts when the polls close at 8PM and usually lasts until 10 or 11PM, depending on individual polling locations. The observer then conveys candidate vote count results to the Newtown Democrats and/or individual campaigns. IMPORTANT: All vote count observers require a Bucks County Watcher’s Certificate credential to do so. We must apply for these certificates soon in order for them to be available on Election Day.

Removing Candidate Lawn Signs Once Polls Close on Election Day: Signs can be removed from polling locations after 8 p.m. Volunteers can work as individuals or in two-person teams.

Post-Election Removal of Candidate Lawn Signs Around Newtown Borough and Newtown Township: All political signs must be removed from public property within three days after the election. Volunteers can work as individuals or as a part of multiple teams to remove existing lawn signs.
