The Village of Riverside is using a series of surveys to further analyze ideas generated by our own community members.

This week's topic: Trees and Nature

These actions need more planning before they are adopted or dismissed by the Riverside community (government, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals). 

The concepts below are summaries of actions our community can take to maintain and improve quality of life over the next decade and beyond.

* 1. In order optimize the use of natural and built systems to manage stormwater I would support:

* 2. Native trees and plantings are essential in Riverside. What efforts to conserve and promote these would you support?

For each of the last five questions, please tell us on a 1-5 scale "How likely would you be to support this?"

* 3. Recognizing or incentivizing home gardens achieving  certification for environmental best practices through established third-party programs such as Conservation @ Home, National Wildlife Federation, etc.

* 4. Using (or requiring landscapers to use) electric or manual yard maintenance equipment instead of gas-powered.

* 5. Considering locations for managed natural spaces (similar to Swan Pond) on public land, for a net reduction in maintenance cost.

* 6. Developing a Long-Term Natural Resource Plan (involving biodiversity, soil health, tree canopy, water quality, etc.) based on strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for a 5-10 year period.

* 7. Promoting more opportunities to volunteer and support native plantings, invasive plant removal and general up keep of public spaces.
