The Village of Riverside is using a series of surveys to further analyze ideas generated by our own community members.

This week's topic: Trees and Nature

These actions need more planning before they are adopted or dismissed by the Riverside community (government, schools, organizations, businesses and individuals).

The concepts below are summaries of actions our community can take to maintain and improve quality of life over the next decade and beyond.

* 1. In order optimize the use of natural and built systems to manage stormwater I would support:

Adopting ordinances and policies to remove or limit stormwater runoff

Encouraging residents, businesses and government to adopt green infrastructure best practices

Promoting building waterproofing and other measures to improve resiliency to water damage

Collaborating with regional and state agencies, including the Lower DesPlaines Watershed group to sustainably manage stormwater and natural watershed

Expanding Village website information hub to further educate residents about native trees, plantings, pollinator habitats, water conservation, composting and environmental best practices

Holding workshops to educate about trees, native plantings, and sustainable landscaping

Collaborating with groups and neighboring communities to promote environmental stewardship and educational opportunities

Celebrating nature through programs and special events like Arbor Day and Earth Day

Exploring grant funding to support public natural area maintenance through volunteer training or other means
