As school board members, you play a critical role in setting the vision and mission that shape student success in your district. This survey is part of a statewide effort to understand how career guidance is currently being prioritized across Alaska’s public schools. Your input will help identify strengths and gaps in preparing students for life after high school and inform future supports to expand career-connected learning that leads to meaningful employment in Alaska’s workforce and communities.
What is Career Guidance?
Career guidance refers to the programs, services, and supports that help students explore career options, set goals, and prepare for post-secondary success. This includes helping students understand and pursue a variety of pathways—such as direct entry into the workforce, vocational and certificated training, two- or four-year college programs, or military service. Career guidance may involve interest assessments, one-on-one advising, exposure to postsecondary and workforce options, financial aid support, and real-world experiences like internships, job shadowing, or work-based learning.
