  • Entry to the awards is free for members of Mainstreet Australia.
  • Non-members will pay $100 plus GST to enter, which will also gain you membership as an individual to Mainstreet Australia. Alternately, you can join as an organisation for $200 plus GST or Council for $300 plus GST (with 2 and 3 individuals added to the membership respectively).
  • Multiple applications for different categories are acceptable from one organisation, however, each application must feature a different project, initiative or activity or different feature of an individual, organisation, main street.
  • All applications whether individual, project, organisation, initiative or activity must have been developed and activated since 1 July 2021.
  • Entries close Sunday 26 March 2023.
  • 3 x finalists for each category will be announced on Monday 17 April 2023.
  • All applications received shall be deemed to accept the use of their name and application in any material published with respect to Mainstreet Australia.
  • Mainstreet Australia reserves the right to accept, reject or withdraw applications at its discretion. It also reserves the right not to award a particular category if nominations are not sufficient to fulfil the judging criteria.
  • Applicants who have previously nominated and /or received an award are welcome to apply in 2023.
  • Applicants and finalists are encouraged to attend the Awards Gala Dinner and Ceremony on Friday 19 May 2023 when the winners will be announced.
Judging Criteria

The following are some of the criteria that judges will consider in assessing applications:

Innovation – Does it provide leadership? Is it unique? Has it inspired others?

Best Practice – Does it demonstrate best practice and reflect current thinking and trends?

Benefit – What have been the benefits to the main street or organisation? Have the benefits been measured? What are the results of the benefits for business and the community?

Success Factor – What makes this special? What are the factors that makes this unique and how might others in the main street industry benefit and learn from this?

Judges will assess the applications on the information provided in the nomination form and supporting material provided to them. Please ensure the nomination form and supporting material are presented correctly as requested in the above conditions of entry.

For Award categories 1 - 8 you could include:

  • What was the total budget and how much of this was spent?
  • Was the budget supplemented e.g. grant funding, sponsorship, in kind support, volunteers etc?
  • Which areas within budget management were handled well and why?

For Award categories 9 – 12 you could include:

  • Does the Organisation, Group, Individual, Street/Town Centre have access to a special levy?
  • If yes, note some ways in which the Organisation, Group, Individual, Street/Town Centre have handled/managed these funds well i.e. gained additional support through grants, in kind support, sponsorship or created stellar events/activities/initiatives on a very small budget etc.
  • If no, note some ways in which the Organisation, Group, Individual, Street/Town Centre have raised funds and why you consider the use of these funds notable.
