2023 Arts on Fire Edson and Area Arts Awards-Nomination Form

Submission Deadline: Friday, September 8, 2023 by noon

REQUIREMENTS

· Please check one (1) award per nomination.

· All nominees must submit a biography up to 250 words in length.

· Previous winners are not eligible for nomination.

· Where possible, illustrate the nomination with support materials such as CDs, DVDs, photographs on a flash drive, letters of reference, press clippings, website links (copies-not originals)-TO A MAXIMUM OF 5 ITEMS. These can be attached to the survey.

· Drop off the nomination form, explanation biography, and support materials to Community Services at the Town of Edson Office or at the Galloway Station Museum by noon, Friday, September 8, 2023.

NOTE TO NOMINATORS

Nominators must complete the nomination form, notify the nominee, and provide support materials. The nominator must not be a family member or co-habiting partner. When the nominee is an organization, the nominator cannot be a board member or staff person of the organization. Nominators can submit a maximum of TWO nominations per category. Please do not nominate on someone else’s behalf.

Arts on Fire jury or committee members may not submit nominations if they are currently serving on the jury or selection committee.

Artist for the Arts Award

This award recognizes an individual artist who has shown significant support and involvement in the arts of Edson and the area.

Past Recipients: Matricia Brown, Rory MacDonald, Greg Templeton, Sonja Boyce, Madison Sharman, Annette McGill, Diana Inscho, Tyler Babiuk, Spencer Richard.

Nominees will be assessed by a jury based on the following criteria:

·         shares artistic skills/talents with the community
·         has a visible presence as an artist in the community
·         actively volunteers in the arts community
·         pursues personal artistic development
·         has been recognized for artistic achievement

Arts Champion Award

This award is open to arts or heritage supporters, donors, volunteers, sponsors, educators and innovators. It includes those who advocate and stimulate community support for the arts or heritage.

Past recipients: Doug Woodhouse, Rotary Club of Edson, Robyne Wilock, Shari McDowell, Peter Taylor, Emma Laurin, Lara Felsing, Sandra Fedorak. Arts Centre for Edson Society (ACES)

Nominees will be assessed by a jury based on the following criteria:

·         significantly contributes to the arts community through volunteer time or donations
·         has a visible presence in the community
·         has demonstrated ongoing support of and cooperation with community arts and culture groups
·         encourages community support for the arts
·         promotes arts and culture

Cultural Pillar Award

This award is open to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and contributions to the community’s cultural vitality in one of the following areas:

Performing Arts: music, dance, theatre
Visual Arts: fine arts (pottery, painting, fabric, wood, plastic, glass, metal) and crafts, film, multimedia, video, photography
Literary Arts: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting
Culture and Heritage: building restoration, displays and exhibits, archives, festivals, dress, culinary, historians, curators

Nominees will be assessed by a jury based on the following criteria:

·         has a visible presence in the community
·         encourages community involvement and participation
·         shows longstanding commitment to culture and community
·         encourages developing artists and/or community initiatives in arts and culture
·         organizes and/or supports community events

Young Artist in the Community

This award celebrates an outstanding young artist in any discipline and serves as a reminder that the potential and future of the arts will be realized by our youth.

Past recipients: Mackenzie Brown, Cassandra Freeborn, Jairus Davi-Digui, Ryan Halterman, Berg & Ella Felsing, Kaili Redlick, Brianne Benson, Mackenzie Eidt, Tamara Everett, Quinn Larder, Ava Simmons, Morgan Steffler, Cody Van Beek, Jenna Biehler.

Depending on the number of nominations received, there may be two awards given in this category: one for visual and one for performing arts.
