To increase awareness of Tasmania’s numerous burrowing crayfish species in Tasmania, including some very special threatened species in certain spots, the Bookend Trust invites north and north-west primary schools to join in Claws on the Line burrowing crayfish activities in September and October. We offer school incursions and art competitions to help students learn and understand more about about these amazing creatures.
Primary-aged students are invited to create burrowing crayfish artworks (including drawing, painting, sculpture) to help let people know what might be living beneath their feet! Artworks are displayed at two awards events: Tasmanian Arboretum 3:30 pm 30th October; Burnie Regional Museum 3:30 pm 31st October. Prizes and certificates are presented for outstanding entries (event details will be emailed to you, and awards will be posted to those who can’t get to the event).
If you would like to enter a piece of art this year, please complete the following form, and send a photograph of it to hello@naturetrackers.au – by 5 pm Sunday 19th October 2025.
