Host Profile
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) was founded in 1905 as a voluntary, self-supported non-profit organization to administer the junior and senior high school athletic and activities programs in the state of Washington. The WIAA currently serves approximately 400 member high schools and 400 member middle schools and operates over 120+ High School State Championship events each school year.

Dates: February 20-22, 2025; February 19-21, 2026; February 18-20, 2027; February 24-26, 2028

Extent of Event:
The WIAA is looking to secure a facility for the next four years of the allocation cycle, then will consider a longer contract.

Event Profile:
The WIAA State Gymnastics Championships are the culmination of the competitive high school gymnastics season. Individuals, all arounds and teams qualify during the district qualifying meets held the weekend prior to the state meet.  These championships bring together student-athletes, coaches, fans, parents, judges, and other spectators from all over Washington State.

Attendee Profile:
  • The number of qualified athletes is typically around 350
  • Families and classmates of the participating student-athletes
  • WIAA Staff, Event Staff, Judges, Sponsors and Vendors
Facility Requirements:
  • A minimum of two (2) basketball courts, one (1) for warm-ups and one (1) for the competition.
  • Facility with ticket gate / pass gate entrances with ease of managing and separating participants and spectators.
  • Restrooms (a separate restroom for event staff and judges is preferred.)
  • Sound System which includes four (4) speakers placed on the four (4) corners of the competition court.
  • Internet Access (for streaming, live scoring, and WIAA website updates.)
  • Booth/Designated area for media, streaming, event staff.
  • Private meeting area for up to 30 event staff and judges.
  • Sufficient parking for spectators and qualified teams, which also includes school busses.
  • Sufficient seating for both spectators and participants.
  • Meeting rooms/classrooms or large area that athletes can utilize between performances.
  • Space for vendor/sponsor displays/booths.
  • Concessions with a variety of items offered or allowance for outside vendors.
  • Emergency Action Plan.
Competition floor:
  • A full gymnasium for competition, with a spring floor, one (1) set of uneven parallel bars, one (1) vault and one (1) beam with appropriate padding and distance between apparatus.
  • Table(s) and two (2) chairs for eight (8) judges located at each of the event areas.
  • Head table comprised of four (4) tables and six (6) chairs, with elevated platform for displaying scoring system.
  • Screened area for medical personnel.
  • Spectator seating for a minimum of 1,500
Locker/meeting rooms:

Two (2) locker rooms with mirrors and restroom facilities.

Practice/warm-up area:

  • A full gymnasium for scheduled warm ups, with a spring floor, one (1) set of uneven parallel bars, and at least one (1) vault and one (1) beam with appropriate padding and distance between apparatus.
  • Area for medical personnel
  • Secured/separated so that music can be played.
Host Responsibilities:
  • Site Manager.
  • Facility maintenance, set-up and management.
  • Ticket sellers / ticket takers.
  • Pass gate attendee / greeter for teams and officials.
  • Parking attendants / traffic flow.
  • PA Announcer.
  • Sound/light technician.
  • Custodial / clean up.
  • Security.
  • Hospitality area for event staff and judges.
WIAA Responsibilities:
  • Event manager and staff.
  • Assigning / scheduling of judges.
  • Media coordination.
  • Streaming.
  • Credential distribution.
  • Trophies and awards.
  • Event schedule and operation.
  • Athletic Trainer / Sports Medicine scheduling.
  • On-site signage and marketing.
  • Event materials and supplies.
Hotel Requirements: The host city must have access to safe, reasonably priced hotel rooms for schools that must travel. Size of teams will vary from one (1) to 16, with 2-4 coaches and chaperones, and a school administrator. In addition, there may been the need for up to ten (10) hotel rooms for two (2) nights for judges, event staff or WIAA executive board members.

Community Involvement: Seeking community involvement is encouraged to enhance the event for participants and spectators alike. Hosts that can provide meals, gifts and courtesy relationships are preferred. The WIAA reserves the right to determine any promotion of such involvement and to review the details of any agreements.
