2025 Operating Grant Competition

Prepare the Application
The application submission must contain the following:
  • A completed application form
  • A proposal limited to 5 pages in length (excluding references and appendices), single-spaced, 11-point Arial or Calibri font, 2 cm margins, with the following sections:
    • Summary of current state of knowledge
    • Rationale
    • Objectives and research questions
    • Methods
    • Plans for knowledge translation
    • Timeline for the project
  • References – use Vancouver style of referencing
  • Budget with justification and quotations for equipment purchases, statistician/technician time
  • A printed or pdf copy of a CV (CIHR Project Biosketch format) for each Principal Investigator and Co-investigator

  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • Manitoba Lung Association reserves the right to withdraw late or incomplete applications, or those exceeding page limitations, from the competition.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applications will be considered from independent researchers with a current faculty appointment in any post-secondary education institution in Manitoba.
  • Priority will be given to:
    1. Research related to inhaled air quality (this includes, but may not be limited to industrial, traffic, forest and wildfire pollution, tobacco and cannabis smoking, and vaping)
    2. Interdisciplinary research
    3. An interdisciplinary team that includes one or more of: knowledge users, care givers, patients/clients, and/or an implementation science provider.
    4. Research with a clinical partner.
    • Submissions for pilot projects, new projects, or new studies linked to existing projects will be given funding priority.
    • Applicants may only submit one application as a principal investigator or a co-principal investigator per year.
      • At the time of application and for the duration of the award, the principal investigator, co-principal investigator, co-investigator(s), and collaborator(s) are not eligible if they hold or have held funding, directly or indirectly within the last 5 years, from the tobacco and/or cannabis and/or vaping industry.
