This survey is for those who wish to enroll in the four-week, four-day-a-week field methods course at the 2015 LSA Summer Linguistic Institute. The course will be taught in two sections of twelve students each. Both will meet from 8:30-10:20am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. One section will be taught by Lenore Grenoble of the University of Chicago; and one by Tony Woodbury of the University of Texas at Austin, who is the Kenneth Hale professor this year. Both classes will work with native speakers of Basque, a language isolate of southwestern Europe. In past Institutes, there have been more students interested in taking Field Methods than available seats. We are therefore using this survey to help us put together two balanced classes, each composed of students with a strong interest in field work from a diversity of personal and academic perspectives. The only strict prerequisite for taking the course is that you have already had at least one basic introductory course in phonetics/phonology and one in syntax/semantics.
