Your Feedback on the Draft Horowhenua Growth Strategy Plan.

This survey is asking you about your opinions on the Draft Horowhenua Growth Strategy. Your answers will be used as part of a submission by the Waikawa Beach Ratepayers Association.

* 1. The Council wants to hear feedback on the need for reticulated drinking water systems, wastewater networks and rezoning land at Waikawa Beach. They have stated in their plan they prefer option 2 of the following three options: Which of these do you prefer?

Option 1: No additional services provided with no extra costs.

Option 2: Water and wastewater infrastructure provided to existing homes and projected growth areas with increased rates.

Option 3: Water and wastewater infrastructure to only projected growth areas with increased rates.

* 2. The council are projecting that more people will want to move to Waikawa Beach and have mapped out potential areas for residential. growth as in the map below. Are you in favour of this land being rezoned for residential growth? Please select all that apply.

No – I have concerns rezoning this land for residential growth would change the beach character of our coastal settlement

No – I have concerns about the impact of rezoning this land for residential growth on the outstanding natural features of this area

No – I have concerns that this land is unsuitable for residential development due to it being low lying land with underground waterways the appearance of small streams and semi -permanent swamps following the Kaikoura earthquakes

No – I have concerns that this is an inappropriate investment to develop low lying coastal land in view of climate change scenarios and the increased incidence of flooding that has already occurred.

No – I have concerns that this land is unsuitable for residential development due to the lack of infrastructure to support a larger community –No public transport, limited access through one small road.

The Council’s current drinking water management for those settlements connected to the Levin water supply: where water restrictions are in place in summer and frequent boil water notices issued in winter

Coastal erosion that is increasing on beach front properties

The need to maintain safe swimming and recreation by reducing or eliminating effluent and other run-off pollution from Waikawa River, and riparian planting to restore the river to a healthy state
