The North Avondale Specific Plan (NASP) provides development guidance in the area currently bounded by Encanto Boulevard, Dysart Road, 99th Avenue, and Indian School, with exceptions extending north of Indian School Road and west of Dysart Road. Updating the Specific Plan is an Implementation Strategy of the General Plan 2030 approved by City Council on April 2, 2012, and approved by residents on August 28, 2012. An update to the North Avondale Specific Plan will provide a useful tool in implementing the City's long term vision of creating a healthy, sustainable community. New guidelines for growth in the area are required as the economic development focus of the corridor transitions away from sprawling shopping centers, but clustered unique housing, low density, open space, public spaces, and urban core living and shopping opportunities. An update to the plan can help North Avondale achieve its highest potential and ensure it remains one of the southwest valley's most desirable places to live.
