In May 2018 The American Institute for Conservation approved the creation of the Materials Selection and Specification Working Group (MWG) with a two-year charge. For more information visit the AIC Wiki page.
The MWG is a community of collection care, conservation, analytical science, and allied professionals which will work on developing guidelines and best practices for selecting, evaluating, and disseminating information concerning materials used in collection care for storage, exhibition and transport. As the group begins its work we would like to hear from the broader preservation community about the resources currently used in making decisions about materials choice and use. This survey is designed to collect information on how you choose materials, what resources you currently use, and what kind of online resource might aid in your decision making.
We invite you to answer these questions from your current institutional or research standpoint, and if there are questions that do not apply to you, please simply indicate as such. We are interested in responses from staff in all positions and institutions of varying resources. We ask that you include identifying information so that we can understand the responses but we will not share any information outside of our working group.
