ADA accessible outdoor recreation in Cave Junction starts with Challenger Baseball

We are contacting you to ask for your feedback regarding an effort to increase outdoor recreation opportunities for families with children and adults who experience disability in Josephine, Jackson, Curry  and Del Norte counties. We want to provide this opportunity because of the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports for individuals with disabilities and their families.

The immediate goal is to build a baseball playing field suitable for a Challenger Baseball League, an official division of the National Little League program for individuals who experience disability. Anyone from ages 4-104 can participate in this program.

Challenger Baseball League participation in southern Oregon has been scant because of long distances that coastal residents in Curry and Del Norte counties must drive to play games against teams in Josephine and Jackson counties.

We believe a more central Cave Junction location for Challenger League games may help reduce this distance barrier. The questions below will help validate that a central Cave Junction location and shorter driving distances will make it easier for families to enroll their children who experience disability in Challenger League and participate in Challenger League games.

We understand that traveling for a baseball game would be more fun for the whole family if there were a variety of other things to do at the park before and after games. The effort to create this central location includes development of other accessible facilities in a welcoming, safe, family friendly environment with something for all of the family including the family dog.

Please help us with a few minutes of your time to take the survey and share your ideas and concerns. Your feedback is an essential first step to increase our competitiveness for grants that can be used to develop accessible outdoor recreation opportunities in our southern Oregon community.
