Welcome to the Scarboro Student Experience Survey

Dear Survey Participant,

The purpose of this survey is to collect information about your experience at this college. All surveys are confidential and results will be reported in aggregate and not by individual. I invite you to participate in this research. You were selected as a possible participant because the survey is for all students over the age of 18. Please read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study. This study is being conducted by: Susan W. Scarboro, Doctoral Candidate in the Community College Executive Leadership Program, Wingate University, under the direction of Dr. John McKay.

Background Information: The purpose of this research study is to focus on how retention and completion is supported in the classroom.

Procedures: If you agree to be in this study, I will ask you to do the following things: participate in a voluntary, confidential online survey. For every 200 surveys completed, those Survey participants’ emails will be entered into a drawing for a $20.00 Visa gift card. Winners will be informed via their institutional email. Seven - ten student volunteers will also participate in a focus group during a one hour long session which will be recorded. Participants in the focus group session will be given an alias name rather than their given name in order to protect privacy.

Risks and Benefits of Being in the Study: There are no risks from participating in this study. For every 200 surveys completed, those Survey participants’ emails will be entered into a drawing for a $20.00 Visa gift card. Winners will be informed via their institutional email. Other than that, there is no direct benefit from participation.

Confidentiality: Research records will be kept in a locked file within the researcher’s safety deposit box, located at a local bank. I am the only person who will have access to the records. Data will be used for educational purposes only. Data will be destroyed 10 years from the date of publication.

Voluntary Nature of the Study: Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations with Davidson County Community College or Wingate University. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw at any time without penalty.
