The University of Houston-Clear Lake is partnering with Texas Library Association to provide students with the opportunity to experience professional service in TLA. The 2017 TLA Conference will be held April 19-22 in San Antonio. One of the purposes of this program is to include those who are new to the profession and to provide educational experience for library students which includes networking and project management. Students may apply for an internship on various TLA committees (listed below). Click here for information about each committee.

To be eligible for the program, you should be:
  • Enrolled in our library science graduate program with the intention of earning your MLIS and/or Texas School Librarian certification
  • A student member of TLA (Go to http://www.txla.org/join to join.)
  • New to ALA/TLA internship or TLA committee work
To apply, you will need to submit an application for one of the TLA committees listed below. The application must include the following:
  • A letter of recommendation from one of your UHCL SLIS course instructors/professors 
  • An unofficial transcript showing coursework completed in the library science program
  • As essay describing why you want to work with the identified committee (Your essay should be no more than 300 words. It should include why you want to work with your selected committee(s), how you feel you will benefit your  committee(s) and how you anticipate using your committee experience to champion the cause of school librarians.)
By completing this application, you are agreeing to the following responsibilities:
  • You will attend Annual Assembly (usually held in July)
  • You will register for the TLA Annual Conference (free registration and 3 meals are included for interns)
  • You agree to attend any virtual meetings held outside of Annual Assembly or Annual Conference
  • You agree that you will be a non-voting participant in all meetings
  • Your responsibilities include keeping minutes for all meetings and submitting them to the committee chair
  • You will complete other duties as agreed upon by the chair and you, the intern
  • You will maintain enrollment in the UHCL School Library and Information Science program through the appointment of intern (graduation in May after Annual Conference is appropriate)
