The Labor Government are making unfair changes to the private health insurance rebate for over 65s
Australians over 65 have spent decades doing exactly what governments asked them to do: take out private health insurance, pay their premiums, and help reduce pressure on the public health system.
Now the Albanese Government wants to rip away the private health insurance rebate many retirees rely on most.
New analysis shows some couples over 65 could be forced to pay more than $1,600 extra per year for their health cover. For pensioners and retirees on fixed incomes, that is simply unaffordable.
If older Australians are forced to drop their private cover, the pressure will only grow on already stretched public hospitals, elective surgery waitlists and ambulance services.
This is unfair, short-sighted and wrong.
I am calling on the Albanese Government to immediately reverse these changes and protect affordable private health insurance for older Australians.
