K-12 Legislation and Policy

The following questions are related to education bills filed in the 2017 regular session and education policy which falls under the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

* 1. Do you support a parent's right to exclude their child from state assessments?

* 2. Do you believe that a child should be discriminated against, or punished, if their parent makes the decision to exclude them from state assessments?

* 3. Federal law allows up to 5% of eligible students be categorized as "non-testers" before a school, or district is penalized. Do you believe that Louisiana should adopt a stricter policy and penalize for EVERY non-tester?

* 4. Do you support testing in ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science in every grade from 3-8?

* 5. Do you support yearly state assessments only as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)?

* 6. How much weight should student performance on state assessment have on a teacher's evaluation?

* 7. Would you support a yearly assessment that provides teachers and schools with detailed information about the assessment results that can be used to improve instruction?
