Brookline Traffic Calming Request Form

Use this form to request that the Town of Brookline consider a Road for Traffic Calming. Requests are reviewed by the Town’s DPW Engineering & Transportation Division and considered alongside Town-wide data sets (such as crash history, traffic volumes, speeds, roadway context, and other safety metrics). A traffic calming request is one input among many factors used to determine which streets are selected and prioritized for traffic calming across Brookline.

To help evaluate traffic calming needs more quickly and consistently, the Town is making use of new technologies that produce Town-wide datasets of traffic speeds. These data, combined with input from residents, will help staff identify the streets with the most egregious speeding first. In addition to speeding data, prioritization may also consider crash history, access to public transit, and proximity to land uses such as schools, parks, and senior housing.

Requests will be evaluated and addressed in order of severity as determined by these data inputs, combined with the list of current requests. Where appropriate, requested streets may be incorporated into clusters with adjacent streets to help deter cut-through traffic and ensure traffic calming is implemented comprehensively, rather than on an isolated street.

Note: Some streets are not eligible for speed humps due to roadway classification, tight curves, or steep slopes.
