The Official Plan is the over arching planning document for the Municipality.  The basic intent of this Plan is to provide policies that guide future development to areas where it is most suited and to protect the physical and natural resources of the Municipality in order to allow for their continued use and enjoyment.  The Official Plan is the Municipality’s “road map” for growth, development and conservation for the next 20 years.

The Zoning By-law is the planning document that implements those policies of the Official Plan.  This document divides the entire Municipality into specific zones and describes what you can or cannot do within each of those zones.

Each zone has a corresponding list of permitted land uses and lot regulations (e.g. front, side and rear yards setback, parking standards) for all development.  The By-law also includes general regulations for envelopment throughout the Municipality, across all zones.
