While The Regulated Health Professions Act,  Regulations, current Practice Directions and the Code of Ethics provide general practice expectations for registered nursing practice, self- employed registered nurses must additionally implement business practices that are in the best interest of the public. The purpose of the Practice Direction: Self-Employed Practice is to outline and provide clarity for the minimum practice expectations for self-employed registered nurses in relation to their business practices to promote quality of care and to prevent inappropriate, unsafe, incompetent and unethical private practice.
