The GCSAPP coalition is concerned about youth excessive alcohol use. In 2019, 27% of 9th-12th grade youth in Gunnison County reported binge drinking in the last 30 days. This is higher than the regional (16.5%), state (14.2%) and national average (12%). This is concerning. GCSAPP uses a variety of strategies to address excessive alcohol use by youth and adults. One strategy is to strengthen our community’s social hosting ordinances.
Social hosting is when an adult knowingly and unknowingly allows underage substance use on their property for underage youth. Property owners can be held liable for any unintended consequences of underage substance use. There are currently ordinances in Crested Butte and Gunnison to prohibit social hosting
