Big River First Nation – Solid Waste Management Feasibility Study

The Band Council has undertaken a Solid Waste Management Feasibility Study for Big River First Nation (BRFN). The study will be looking at solid waste management on BRFN and provide an analysis of potential options for improved solid waste management into the future. Solid waste can pollute the land, the water, and the air. We believe that the community including youth and elders are keen observers, careful listeners, and that you care about protecting and preserving your lands for future generations.

We would like to know your thoughts on the current solid waste management system in place and invite you to provide any comments, current issues or concerns you may have. We hope you will share your knowledge with us. We have a few questions for you to think about and you might have other ideas that you would like to provide.
1.Name (Optional)
2.Phone Number (Optional)
3.Please tell us your thoughts on the current solid waste disposal and collection system in place on Big River First Nation.
Do you have any concerns regarding the current setup?
What could be done differently to improve waste collection in your community?
What do you like about the current system?
4.Would you be in favour of hazardous waste collection days being offered in the future (propane tanks, oil, bleach, cleaning solution, batteries, other household chemicals)?
How frequent should these events be held?
And where?
5.Would you be in favor of the collection of more recyclable materials on Reserve (ie. plastics, paper, glass, can/bottles, etc.)?
If more recycling options were available, would you use them?
6.Would you be in favor of the collection of more composting materials on Reserve (ie. Vegetables, fruits, grass, leaves, etc)? Composting can be re-used to enrich soil with nutrients.
If composting options were available, would you use them.
7.Please provide any further comments, concerns, ideas, or questions, related to solid waste management.
